You really know that you are using local product when you are actually the one picking it off the tree. McMurtrie Farm, a wedding and event venue in Pflugerville has a 100+ year old fig tree on their property and they very graciously let us come and take what ever figs we could reach. The tree is beautiful, sitting in the middle of 3 1/2 acres of gorgeous meadow. Chickens and roosters roam freely and a cute Dalmatian dog watched us intently. McMurtrie Farm is undergoing a huge renovation and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished product! They already have the meadow with the staircase (pictured above), but are putting in a big pavilion, lots of landscaping and new lighting. We collected a few pounds of figs and we’ll be using them to create our signature fig dishes such as roasted fig with panchetta and goat cheese and deviled figs with blue cheese.
