Cheerio! We have begun our week long vacation across the pond visiting family and taking in the sites. After getting in yesterday and suffering the effects of jet lag, Dan’s aunt and uncle took us though the village of Shere (about 20 or 30 miles outside of London) to a great pub called The White Horse. I felt like I was going back in time as I entered this almost 600 year old building. Dan ordered a Fullers cask ale and I had a lovely Chenin Blanc. The abiance was charming, even as the neighborhood bulldog walked into the pub with its owner. Just up the street was a beautiful church that had been used in the movies,” Bridget Jones’s Diary” and as the setting for Cameron Diaz and Jude Law movie, “The Holiday.”
After our trip to this quaint village we went back to Dan’s family’s home and experienced what English barbecue was really like! Lamb and sausages on the grill! Though very different from our Texas BBQ, everything tasted delicious and we all cleaned our plates.
This morning we’re off to London and I’m going to try and get Dan to ride the London Eye with me, but I feel like that may be a fight I won’t win. But a great dinner at the Boathouse is in our near future so I’ll let you know how it is!
More to come from the UK! Cheers!
